It's almost time

McMurray gave me a delivery date of June 1-3. So that means I should be getting that phone call from the post office Monday or Tuesday morning. I really hope it's Monday because I just realize I have two apointments on Tuesday. ACK!! With my luck, that's a guarantee for Tuesday morning.

I'm also starting to have some anxiety over getting them too. I've read everything I could find and talked to lots of people who raise chickens, so I have lots of knowledge. But that's just not the same as experience. I sure hope I don't kill them all. :o/

Ok deep breath in, deep breath out. Everything is going to be just fine.

Keep checking back for pictures of the babies when they get here.

Worms

I know what you are thinking. This is supose to be a blog about chickens. Not only has it been too long since I posted, but now I'm posting about worms. It's ok, really it is. We'll get to the chickens eventually.

For now, it's worms. We went to a 4-H meeting tonight and came home with a bin full of worms. We also have another bin for Jade to start a new worm farm. Red Wrigglers. That's what they are. With any luck they will multiply enough to keep us in good garden soil and provide plenty of fish bait.

So how does this tie into worms? It gives us a way to compost chicken manure faster. At least that's what I'm going with for now.

The chicks come in about two weeks. I'll get pictures up as soon as they get here.

Less than four weeks

I suddenly realized that the week the chickens will arive is only three weeks away. Given the mailing schedule listed on Murray McMurray's web site that means the chicks will be here in about 3 1/2 weeks. It feels like we've been waiting forever, especially since I was supose to have them about a month ago originally. *sigh*

Now for something funny and non-chicken related......Braden (1 year old) had been in Megan's (3 years old) business all day and it was really starting to drive her nuts. All of a sudden I hear Megan say from the other room "Boy, you're goin' DOWN" and when I looked she was shaking her fist at him, then she turned and walked away making a sort of frustrated growling sound. She has no idea that it only gets worse. :)
